Prof. dr. Bart Van den BoschBart Van den Bosch

Bart Van den Bosch is the CIO of the university hospitals of KU Leuven, Belgium. This is a 2000 bed teaching hospital. His main interests are clinical workstations, hospital workflow automation, integration, hospital information systems and data modelling.

He teaches medical informatics at KU Leuven.

He is on the board of the eHealth Platform, the central Belgian federal government eHealth facilitator and regulator.

Data protection in hospitals

This lecture focuses on the specifics of security measures in a hospital.

On the one hand, health data are more sensitive than financial data, but, on the other hand, a hospital needs to be very open compared to a bank. Many non-employees are constantly on the premises. Another difference is that sharing of the medical is necessary to allow transmural care, whereas financial data mostly do not leave the bank. These requirements present serious security challenges.
